Personally, i like the Harry Potter movies. Not to mention, the added bonus of the controversy that surrounds the books, movies, and other Harry Potter related items. "It's evil I tell you, pure evil...witchcraft." The newest movie created a brand new topic of controversy. PG-13 was the rating and the mommies didn't like it. This movie is darker than the other three and someone does die, so I believe it was properly rated. I think the funniest thing about listening to these parents fuss and complain is the fact that most of the time their children have already read the books and know what is going to happen. The producer's of the movies also have the right idea... they are growing with the audience. They have already hooked this particular group of kids, why let them go?

http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Movies/12/04/boxoffice.ap/index.html

Has anyone seen Aeon Flux? Tonight I suddenly realized that I will not legally be allowed to have champagne at my own wedding and my honeymoon activities will be limited (unless I get a decent fake i.d.)(we are the going out kind of people, especially little no name bars). Personally, I think that all sounds rediculous..a mother, a wife, and still a 'kid.' My best friend is another great example. She has been married, divorced, and has two kids; but she is only 19 years old. Now, I'm not some alcoholic, but I would like a little freedom where I think I deserve it. As far as the law goes, I agree that some kids should not be allowed to drink, but if you want anything bad enough your going to find a way to do it anyway. Not to mention, anything is more fun when someone is telling you you can't. I have experienced this first hand many times, but grew up fast after a few not so great mistakes.

In Stateline, Nevada, a shootout took place in Harrah's Tahoe casino's high-stakes card room. The Zip Feed Mill, located in Sioux Falls, was 202 ft. tall and was built in 1956. When the trigger was pushed the building dropped and is now leaning to one side. The supporting collumns were loaded with explosives and was expected to fall like a tree. The rear, however, was too rotten to push over. When the building collapsed into the basement, it became wedged into place. The demolition crews will be returning with a crane to finish the job. In the spring, the contruction will begin of the $15 million replacement office center. Thel demolition was turned into a fundraising event for the National Mutiple Sclerosis Society. Money was raised by selling t-shirts and selling raffle tickets to see who would push the trigger that would supposedly destroy the building. Money married money. Athina Roussel Onassis, one of the world's richest women, married Alvaro Afonso de Miranda, who won the bronze metal in showjumping in 1996 and 2000. 20 year old Onassis inherited 2.7 billion on her 18th birthday. The location chosen for their wedding was a 18.5 acre property with a museum, tea house, and a cultural center. The week prior to the wedding the fencing surrounding the property was covered in green plastic so there would be no peaking from people passing by the area. They had 400 private guards and metal detectors at the entrance that all the guests had to pass through. The bride and groom were both driven in luxury vehicles to the wedding grounds and the bride was supposed to be wearing Valentino. A man from Arkansas, named Shawn Cox, was caught scaling the White House's fence while the president was home. That is the whole article in one sentence, wow. The rest of the article was spent describing the fact that they were unable to find a reason for Cox wanting on the White House grounds. The most amusing part of the article was when the journalist explained what Cox was wearing and that it was wet from where he had been captured. I am not really sure this is helpful in any way. So, basically a man from Arkansas jumps the fence unarmed, for unknown reasons, and gets his clothes wet on the grass.

http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/12/04/whitehouse.security.ap/index.html

I searched CNN for “occult.” I was looking for an article on one of the many books out there that claims children’s fiction (Harry Potter) is related to the occult and the devil. Interestingly enough, an article came up about a murder by a 16-year-old boy. I will admit that his picture was slighting frightening, yet I was intrigued and had to know more. As I read the article, it described the boy as his fellow classmates viewed him and the murder of his neighbor. After hearing all about his Goth clothes, occult actions, and readings of “the devils book” in public, I expected the murder to be related to his beliefs in the occult. Half way through, they finally stated the suspected motive…DRUGS. Yes that is right, the criminal act was not related to his beliefs. As far as I am concerned the whole first half of the article was a waste on unrelated information. Instead, I would have rather have known more about his drug habits and the people he did spend time with outside of school. Why do we love to gossip about this group and always relate them to criminal acts of violence? I think is mere fascination with the dark and mysterious.

http://www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/10/21/vitale.suspect/index.html

Bird Flu

What is the deal with this possible bird flu epidemic? Basically, that is all that can be done right now. We spend so much of our lives just worrying over things we really don’t have much, if any, control over. I think our focus should be on just living and taking life for all it is worth. Why does president bush look to have this potential judge in his pocket? Which raises another question, how many “others” does he currently have hidden away? Would you send a roofer to build the frame of a house or a plumber to run the electrical wires? President Bush speaks of Miers as if she was a saint. I say masked, because I assume she has her money tied up in Mary Kay stocks. On a serious note, here is a little background information:
"Nancy Grace joined Court TV from the Atlanta Fulton County District Attorney's Office where she served for a decade as Special Prosecutor of major felony cases involving serial murder, serial rape, serial child molestation and arson. Grace compiled a perfect record of nearly 100 felony convictions at trial and no losses." http://www.courttv.com/anchors/nancy_grace.html

Wow, impressive work...as a prosecutor, but as a reporter...

Nancy Grace is an absolute fake, from her pathetic smile to her compassionate comments that are only brought on by her salary and efforts for high ratings. She is over exuberant in her sympathy for the victims. Finally, there is something worse than reality based programming. I personally spent the week watching the "Nancy Grace Power Hour" in hopes than some good might come from it. So far, she has covered a story about a mystery four year old girl lost from her mother, Taylor Behl and her mysterious disappearance, and heartbreaking stories of Hurricane Katrina. The only thing that I was able to pull out of her shows was that she sits perched up on her chair high and mighty. For someone who worked so well in the law field, she seems to have completely forgot that all men and women are innocent until proven guilty. This is shown by her making slanderous statements toward anyone under questioning. Which raises the question, is she a reporter, a lawyer, or just a bad actor?

To read her stories, check out www.cnn.com

An interesting topic in the news these days is the happenings in the Supreme Court. President Bush will be nominating two new members to the Supreme Court, because of Chief Justice Rehnquist's death and O'Conor's retirement. Why is this a big deal? Well for starters, he will be electing the Cheif Justice, the big boy of the Supreme Court. Bush now has the chance to choose two nominees with his views and ideas. Honestly, I am not real big on politics. In my eyes, it is all evil and voting is merely choosing the lesser of two evils. Despite my views, I still feel this is an important topic to track. They will still be our leaders whether we like them or not, and we should at least have some idea about their views on topics that are especially important to our individual lives.

Here is a good site to to keep up with the latest news and even past topics concerning the issue:
http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2005/supreme.court/

The Ban on Photos of Deceased

The recent attempted ban on showing dead bodies through the media is not an issue of full and fair coverage, but an issue of respect for the dead and their families. After FEMA made their request, CNN sued saying it inhibited full and fair coverage. When rescue crews tried to prohibit media from attending recovery missions, it was in hopes that it would eliminate a few of the photo opportunities. Again, CNN claimed that it restricted full and fair coverage. I agree that the media has the right to provide full and fair coverage, but I all believe in respect for the dead. There should be strict rules on exactly how close you can be while taking pictures. Imagine that you were one of the people that made it out and you thought you recognized the bodies of your family and friends.
